Well, this is my first blog, and will probably be my last - except for my classes. Simply because I think it's unfortunate that there are not more fonts to choose from. The reason why I've title my blog "Learning How to Teach My Last Year of Teaching" is because of being just now introduced to this whole google site that I knew nothing about. I LOVE Googledocs! I mean, how cool is it that I can work on a research paper or project with someone in North Carolina, Russia, etc. all at the same time - editing, adding, CHATTING even!
We were just given an iPad the last post-planning day last May. (He simply said "play with it over the next 6 weeks.") Well, at my age, one can "play" and not learn very much at all, or one can be offered workshops to REALLY learn. So I attended one (Thank you Sem. Co.! ;-D) It was FABULOUS! During the first part, an IT specialist just introduced us to only about 20 different websites.... I couldn't keep straight which one did what, but I was most impressed with this Google, so I'm trying to learn it first. And I AM just playing with it right now - since I've at least been shown a few things on it. I need to start playing more with the iPad since I've had a LITTLE more training with it.
I have a long way to go. What a shame it's my last year! If it were not for the lack of discipline, I'd continue to teach. All of this new stuff coming down wouldn't scare me - I think it's fascinating.
I was showing my students Googledocs. Even most of them didn't know! Hahahahaha - what a great feeling that I can teach THEM some technology skills/tools! Anyway, one student that does know a lot, shared the floorplanner site with me through my google drive/e-mail, so now I have it on my computer, (so I can make plans,) AND he shared one he created with me, so it's on (in?) my google drive. I don't know yet if I can edit his plans.
Okay, I'm taking up my lunch time.... oooooh - I just went to preview before publishing. I think I DO like this. So - more to come as I learn.
